How To Incorporate Bohemian Touches Into Your Decor

How To Incorporate Bohemian Touches Into Your Decor

If you don’t know how to incorporate “bohemian” into your existing décor and if you don’t want to spend a whole lot then you’ll want to read more!

You can use this to add any style to your home.

The trick is to add a new item in several areas of your home.

You can start by adding something to one room and if you like what you see then you can do the same for the rest of your rooms.

Chambre à Coucher Avant

The BOHEMIAN  style is almost always associated with Southern California living.

This decor uses creams, whites, beiges and the items used to decorate will often be made of cotton, linen, yarn, wool, feathers, etc.

You can use walls, your sofas or small areas such as a corner of your room, add a lampshade with fringes, add a faux fur throw, etc.

If you don’t feel like drilling a hole in your wall you can just add a dream catcher on your door handle.

Faux fur is an excellent way to add a bohemian touch.

Here are my 4 tips to help you find ideas to start your home decor transformation :

(At the end of this article I’ll give you a little PRO TIP you can also use)

1) Buy a couple home decor magazines.

A part of my book and magazine collection

2)  Watch a few home decor shows

3) Browse the web, BLOGS, etc.

 4) Go to your « go to » favorite shops and keep an OPEN MIND!

I tend to not pin point exactly one item in a magazine of show because you can end up searching for months or even years to find that exact same piece.

And I don’t know if you’ve noticed but often when you have your mind set on something that’s when you don’t find what you’re looking for….

PRO TIP :

FREE MAGAZINES in home decor shops are a great source for ideas

Voilà, HAVE FUN with your home decor by adding a few new items and you’ll change the vibe without spending a lot !

Flower Arranging On A Budget And Easy To Make

Flower Arranging On A Budget And Easy To Make

Spring has arrived and summer’s around the corner, that’s when we want to bring flowers inside!

FLOWER ARRANGING ON A BUDGET AND EASY TO MAKE 1

If you don’t want to spend a lot of money and you don’t know how to make a flower arrangement like the pros yet, then I’ve got the solution for you.

Regroup your vases

  • Search your cupboards and pick several vases, jars or bottles
  • Clean them (I’ll give you a pro tip at the end for getting traces of limestone off)
  • Choose a mix of colors or just one
  • Arrange them by size, put the taller ones in the back, medium in the middle and the smaller ones in front
  • Cut some flowers in your garden, in the woods (if you have any nearby) or pick a few flowers up at your local grocery store
  • Fill your vases with water

PRO TIPS

>  If you want to create some contrast then choose a vase or two that are brighter in color and add a few flowers that pop too.

FLOWER ARRANGING ON A BUDGET AND EASY TO MAKE 2

>  If you don’t have enough flowers, dont worry, use some greenery (ivy leaves, hosta, etc.)

>  If you really want to add that extra dimension and fill the space up then add a plant (orchid etc.)

FLOWER ARRANGING ON A BUDGET AND EASY TO MAKE

>  To get your flower stem at the right height, place it next to the vase and cut the part that’s in excess, that’s lower than the bottom of the vase

>  If you want to have that natural prairy style effect then don’t think it through too much.
Cut and prop into the vases.

     –  Place your vases or bottles (on a table, shelf, platter, plate, etc.),
     –  Sort them by size
     –  Sort your flowers by size, use the tall ones for the tall vases and bottles
     –  Put the flowers and leaves in the different vases
     –  Take a few steps back
     –  Rearrange one or two stems and voilà.

Pre-assembled vases

FLOWER ARRANGING ON A BUDGET AND EASY TO MAKE

If you want to start out simple then buy a pre-assembled selection of bottles or vases.

This one had 5 small bottles inside of a wooden box. I found it at a garden show and bought 2 so I can make an extra-long flower arrangement for a table, etc.

In this case just cut all of your flowers more or less at the height.

PRO TIP

Rub your vase with vinegar to get rid of traces of limestone

JUST HAVE FUN !

Make 2 or 3 arrangements and you’ll see that you’ll start getting the hang of it and won’t have to think too much to get the effect you want 😊

How To Create A « Vignette Of Curiosities »

How To Create A « Vignette Of Curiosities »

How To Create Your Vignette of Curiosities or “Cabinet de Curiosités” as They Call It in France

Chambre à Coucher Avant

Have you ever wanted to create a « cabinet de curiosités » or vignette of curiosities?

I’m going to give you some tips on which objects to us and where to place them.

At the end I’ll give you a little special tip!

Don’t be afraid of taking the « extravagant » route because the stranger the better, you have to draw attention with one-of-a-kind objects.

#1 Choose where in your home you want to create your vignette

It could be :

  • On the steps of your staircae,
  • In a little armoire,
  • On a table ,
  • On a mantle, etc.

#2 What kind of objects :

  • Butterflies (framed, real or faux)
  • Birds (porcelain, etc.)
  • Globes,
  • Small frames for small photos,
  • A cute lamp,
  • Small vases,
  • Statuettes,
  • Gold objects (letter opener, metal fruit…)
  • Objects made of wire
  • Antique jewelry,
  • Feathers, etc.

#3 Where to find them

Start by searching for treasures in your attic or garden shed, sometimes we forget we have things😉

  • Flea markets are great,
  • If you can’t find that last object than check your favorite shop and buy something new.

 #4 The backdrop

Very important for obtaining that « cabinet de curiosités » look, paint the interior of your cabinet or your table in a dark tone, black or dark grey are usually the preferred tones. It’ll make your objects pop!

#4 How to place your items

  • Make sure your squeeze them together, things look better when there aren’t big gaps of space in between them,
  • Put the tall objects in the back (of course) and then the other ones in front.

SPECIAL TIP :

Place an orchid or any other plant in your vignette, it’ll immediately bring it to life !
